Colors
We offer two types of colors, aniline dyes by TransTint for interior use and pigmented stains by Mixol (oxide pigmented stains only) for exterior use. Both are of the highest quality and available pre-mixed to FULL strength in any of our finishes except the Hard Wax. Dilute the concentrated colors with non-tinted liquid finish and be sure to keep track of your ratios! Top coat with non-tinted liquid finish or non-tinted Liquid Wax, Concentrated oil, or Hard Wax. The cost of adding these colors is very high, but a little goes a long way and you can dilute the concentrated color to the shade you like best. We recommend purchasing color samples first ($6 each) to test on your wood and play with the strength. Just call and let us know. 1-888-Land Ark!
TransTint is a dye, which differ from pigmented stains primarily in how they color the wood. Dye based stains are solutions with extremely small coloring particles. They penetrate deep into the wood and color the wood fibers from within, unlike pigmented stains which leave pigment particles on the surface of the wood. For that reason, dyes are transparent, meaning they let light into the wood and do not obscure natural wood figure and overall character. The Mixol colors are pigmented stains, which is why they offer more protection from the weather.

The Mixol chart on their company site is not shown on wood. We realize their chart isn't too helpful for us in the wood world. We are in the process of creating our own color line based on these colors and we will apply them to various wood surfaces and create a new chart. We appreciate your patience with this. In the meantime, approximate colors and we can mix up samples and send them to you for $6 each.
Color Application: Apply light coats with a lambswool pad or staining sponge and back brush or rub out. Mix before and during use. Colors are premixed to almost maximum intensity and often need lightening or thinning. If color is too intense, add non-tinted liquid finish to lighten, just a little at a time. Be sure to keep a record of all proportions used! A muddy grain or color blotching indicates the need to add more non-tinted liquid finish. Top coat with clear liquid, liquid wax or concentrated finishing oil.
Coverage: 300-500 square feet per gallon or 500-700 board feet per gallon; rough-sawn materials tend to absorb more. You get less coverage on the first coat and more on the second.
Product Package Sizes: 1/4 pint cans, 1 pint cans, 1 quart cans, 1 gallon pails, 3.5 gallon pails, 5 gallon pails, 30 gallon steel drums, and 55 gallon steel drums.
Clean Up: Use any solvent (like turpentine) to clean up any undesired oily spots on windows, tile, etc. We recommend using our Pure Citrus Solvent which is the food grade pure orange oil that we use in our products. It is much safer to use and any remaining on the surface will simply evaporate. The vapors from the solvent are non-hazardous. Do wear eye protection when using though! Lots of soap, water and elbow grease will work too!
